Hey everyone!
We decided to start a separate Soraia website devoted solely to the story behind - and making of - our next EP, "Confessions From The Vena Cava" releasing on Friday, September 12th.
Just some factual info: we will start preorders on June 12th for the streaming version, and maybe sooner (saaaaaay, with the next single release?) for physical CDs and vinyl.
We really want to tell you the full story around the writing, recording, and beyond of this release. As it's our first independent release in over ten years, we are very excited to share the whole process with you: from conceiving ideas on songs, to preproduction, to travel to and days in studio, to filming the special 1st pressing run of vinyl, album and single artwork creation, and the store of the songs themselves..
So, let's begin....
I included some photos and video from our first few days recording with producer Tomas Skogsberg in Gräddö, Sweden in August 2024. During the 4th day, I ended up with Covid and couldn't sing my parts, so we went back again after our September tour dates. It ended up being for the best since there was time not only to fully heal, but to strengthen my voice on the road. I also got to familiarize myself with the new structure of some of the songs so it wasn't as new as when we usually go in to record. Always a good thing for me.
One thing I loved about working with Tomas: a great deal of the songs were produced musically first and he only changed a few things with our structures - which made it a big focus for me on my own, unchanged lyrics. This was new for me. I ended up mostly editing myself. His approach is he really wants to capture the raw band as the artists they are, which is not an approach I believe we had ever encountered in studio sessions before. It left me wondering if what I did was ok. That second critical voice in your head came in a lot. But I fought my way through it, and I’m so happy with the final vocals.
The whole band really came to life from this way of working. So all in all--it was a magical experience.
And this is the reason we are going back for more this fall:)
Keep following along with us here. We will all do blog entries pretty regularly about the upcoming release, and please contact us if there's anything you particularly want to know about it.
We will also have album-related merch hitting here first.
Follow along the story we already began on our GoFundMe posts earlier this year.
The next entry is coming later this week. In the meantime, here is a photo of the studio with Tomas and a little video as well.
Peace,
ZouZou
